Embarking on the Camino de Santiago: Our Story.

It all began with a smile as we settled into our first night on the Camino Francés in 2017. And as we made our way along those 800 kilometers from Orisson to Santiago de Compostela, a lifelong friendship grew.

If you’re thinking of walking the Camino de Santiago, we know how intimidating it feels, especially if you plan to walk alone. In sharing our experiences, we hope to encourage you to take that first step on your Camino journey. Join us as we help you plan and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime.

We are Susan Ross and Catherine Driver, two Canadians who have been profoundly changed by walking the Camino de Santiago. And although we live in different cities and lead different lives, the Camino remains with us.

Walking the path is not just a physical journey but a transformative experience of the soul.

Cat Driver

I am a freelance travel writer and music lover from Vancouver, Canada.

My studies in Art History first introduced me to the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. And since that time, many years ago, the Camino has called.

My first Camino was the Francés in 2017. You could say it was life-changing as I have since gone on to spend two years teaching English in Spain. I have made my way throughout Europe, North America and the Middle East on my travels. My latest adventure (and, boy, was it an adventure) was completing the Camino Primitivo in 2024.

I have been blessed to be able to turn my passion into a career. I am currently the Vancouver content creator for Travel Lemming. And have also contributed my work to Spotted by Locals, Solo Travel Society, JourneyWoman and Travel Talk Tours.

I am passionate about travel and personal development. The Camino gave me a way to experience those two passions in a whole new way.

Sue Ross

I’m a retired entrepreneur who has never really stopped working. I thrive on adventure and exploration. As a free spirit, I’m constantly seeking new experiences through hiking, exploring different cultures, and uncovering the world’s wonders. My mind is always buzzing with the excitement of my next journey and what awaits me.

My first Camino was the Camino Francés in May 2017. I was in Spain with my husband in 2015 and our guide pointed out a person walking on a pathway. He said, “That guy is a pilgrim. The pilgrimage is famous here in Spain. The pilgrims walk 800 kilometers for their holiday”. My only thought in that moment was, “Who does that?”.

Well, I guess I do, because even though I had never heard of the Camino de Santiago or doing a pilgrimage as a holiday I could not get the thought out of my mind. By the time I got back to Canada, I was in full Camino research mode and trying to find out as much as I could about this exciting new adventure I would be taking.
